Does the city of La Mirada have rent control law?

Hi Peter,

As far as I know La Mirada does not have rent control laws. You can always call the city directly to double check though.

Has the Citiy of Long Beach and of Culver City, Rent Control Ordinances?

Posted by Dioni Alonzo on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 1:21am

Hi Dioni,

I'm pretty sure that both don't but you need to call city hall for both cities to confirm that with someone in the housing department.

My Mother is a senior citizen on a fixed income. She has been living in the same apartment for 5 yrs. They raised her rent 25.00 when I ( daughter) asked them to fix a few things in her apartment. Is this legal. I read her rental agreement, is there something specific that I should be looking for ?

Hi Cassandra

What city does your mom live in? Is their rent control in that city?

Raising your rent is not in and of itself illegal and if it was only $25 it probably was within what RSO allows (even if she lives in area covered by rent control) if they hadn't done this in the past your repair requests could have reminded them that they need to increase their revenues to keep up with ongoing maintenance costs

Hi Ben, My Mom lives in inglewood.

My new landlorn wants to charge us $350 dollars more. I live in a 2 bedroom 1 bath house built in the 1920 with the original cabinets. There has been no work done and i pay $1,150 today. Can they raise the rent that much. I live in maywood ca 90270. I would be paying $1,500 plus $50 for extra parking.

Cassandra: Unfortunately I don't think Inglewood has rent control, there are still state laws that landlords and property managers have to adhere to http://www.cityofinglewood.org/default.asp

Nohelly: Maywood is its own city (not in LA) and I do not believe they have rent control either
http://www.cityofmaywood.com/ try calling the city direct
