Deadline to Apply for the Los Angeles Section 8 Housing Waitlist is October 30th by 5 PM

For the first time in 5 years, The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles opened up applications to be placed on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List. This federal government program assists very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled in affording safe and sanitary housing by providing participants with vouchers that they can use towards their rent. Applying for the program does not guarantee you a voucher; instead, you will be entered into a lottery, and those chosen will be put on the Section 8 waitlist.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18+ or an emancipated minor in accordance with California law.
  • Must be either a US citizen, a non-citizen with legal immigration status, or have one person in the family with eligible immigration status.
  • Individual or family's income status must be Extremely Low Income or Very Low Income.

The table below indicates the US Department of Housing and Urban Developments income limits for the city of Los Angeles. Limits depend on the number of people in the family household compared to their combined income.

If you qualify, be sure to apply by the deadline of October 30th, at 5 PM because it's unclear when The Housing Authority of LA will open up applications again. To sign up for the lottery, go to this website using a smart phone, tablet, or computer.
