Sometimes hitting up a corporate chain is the easiest and cheapest option when you need something. But now more than ever, it's important to go out of our way to support our community's small businesses whenever we can. So the next time your pet needs a wash or a new chew toy, skip PetCo and pay a visit to one of our picks for the 5 best pet grooming and supply shops on LA's east side.

1. Bone Sweet Bone - Multiple Locations

Whether you bring in your pup for grooming, daycare, or an overnight stay, Bone Sweet Bone strives to create a low-stress, home-away-from-home atmosphere for your dog. With their cage-free approach to dog care, you don't have to worry about whether your pet is going to be cooped up for hours while you're gone. With locations in Silverlake, Downtown, Studio City, and Woodland Hills, every east side dog owner should check out Bone Sweet Bone!

2. The Urban Pet - Multiple Locations

With shops in Silver Lake, Beverly Blvd., South Pasadena, Eagle Rock Blvd., and La Brea Ave., you can easily find a conveniently located Urban Pet store. They offer an array of services at the Urban Pet, like grooming, vaccinations, and behavioral training, so you can take care of most of your cat’s or dog’s needs in one trip. If you need some supplies, they also provide curbside pick-up if you’re short on time or don’t feel comfortable shopping indoors yet.

3. Echo Bark - Silver Lake

Located in Sunset Junction, Echo Bark isn’t quite in Echo Park, but it’s close enough! And despite the name, they cater to dogs and cats. With over 120 five star reviews on Yelp, people rave about the above and beyond service provided by the owners, Will and JF. They’re passionate about catering to pets and their human companions, their mission being to “supply the highest quality, newest, most trusted products with the smartest, user-friendly approach.”

4. Cats & Dogs - Los Feliz

By the cross-section of Hyperion and Rowena Ave. you’ll find Cats & Dogs, where they provide supplies and grooming services. If you want to stick around while your pet gets a wash, their bath area is open and visible. Here’s a tip: you can check in on their Yelp page for 5% off a grooming service, toys, or other supplies, so there’s no reason not to give them a try if you’re in the area!

5. Den Urban Dog Retreat - Highland Park

If you want your dog to feel like they’re at a holistic spa instead of a pet store, send them to the Den Urban Dog Retreat. Here they offer a “cage-free,” semi-private grooming experience, where you can watch your pup get scrubbed up in a claw-foot tub. If your dog has been a really good boy, you can add on a spa service to the basic grooming package. These are tough times, he deserves a relaxing “paw soother” massage!
