Even though one of Los Angeles’ most prominent residents, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, hails from City Terrace, it is a relatively unknown area. City Terrace real estate is flanked at its north and west limits by the city of Los Angeles. Boyle Heights is on the west, Lincoln Heights is to the northwest, University Hills is north and Monterey Park is east. City Terrace real estate includes a public library operated by Los Angeles County, as well as a county-run City Terrace Park. The park includes a pool surrounded by a wall painted with symbols of the water cycle, representations of water gods and protective nymphs from a variety of cultures, and images of swimmers and divers. The park also features a basketball court, children’s Playground, community room, computer center, gymnasium, tennis courts, and programs such as an after-school club, recreational cheerleading, gymnastics, wheelchair basketball, and adult basketball.
City Terrace Elementary School, part of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) offers an English-Mandarin Chinese dual-language immersion program, the first dual English-Mandarin program to be offered in the district.
