North Long Beach Homes

North Long Beach real estate is primarily a residential area that also includes business and retail on Atlantic Avenue, Artesia Boulevard, Long Beach Boulevard and Cherry Avenue. Nearly half the population is Latino, one-quarter is African-American, ten percent is Asian and the rest white. The 2000 census estimated 90,000 people lived in the neighborhood.

North Long Beach, also known as "Northtown", is a working class area enclave of Long Beach that often includes larger lots than those in similar neighborhoods closer to the shore. With less commerce than other areas of Long Beach, this area seems more idyllic and slow-paced. North Long Beach homes are surrounded by the borders of Compton, Paramount, Bellflower and Lakewood to the north and east. Del Amo Boulevard is its southern border.

North Long Beach Amenities

Amid a small shopping area on Atlantic Boulevard is the 35-year-old Avila's Ranchito Mexican Restaurant. The eatery, one of 11 that form a Southern California chain, is hailed for its generous portions, attentive service and authentic, reasonably-priced cuisine. City officials have worked tirelessly to improve the area, encouraging Target to open a North Long Beach store and assisting in the opening of the 5.5-acre Ed “Pops” Davenport Park in August, 2009 (named after a fallen police officer).

Houghton and Coolidge parks, as well as Jordan High School offer programs that make North Long Beach real estate listings attractive. These include recreational swimming, a skate park, a computer center and senior center with seasonal events such as a snow day and Halloween parties. The neighborhood is known for its annual Veterans' Day Parade.
