The neighborhood gets its name from a small circular park on Orizaba Avenue and Eighth Street. The main feature of the park, the Craftsman Gazebo, was restored in 2009. A tile mosaic in the center of the gazebo features the Rose Park emblem and a heritage rose garden surrounds the gazebo. Rose Park was first settled in 1905, with subdivision construction continuing until 1921. The district has worked to restore the park its former grandeur.

The neighborhood's restaurants include the historic Prospector restaurant, which serves prime rib and lobster in a hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, with entertainment by funky bands after 8 pm. The Portfolio Coffeehouse, on the neighborhood's edge at Fourth Street and Junipero Avenue, abounds with java lovers who sit for hours with laptops and friends.
